GIVING AS AN ACT OF WORSHIP
Whether in joy or obedience, we believe that giving is an act of worship and trust. When we give, we empty ourselves in order to be filled again by God.
Tithing began as an Old Testament Law in which the Israelites were required to give ten percent of their crops and livestock to the temple to support the work of God which was carried out by the priests and Levites. The word tithe means “a tenth of”. In the New Testament, we are exhorted again and again to be generous and to give to the work of the church and those serving in ministry. Many Christians use ten percent as a minimum in their giving, with extravagant generosity being the goal. At HCC, we encourage every believer to step into the realm of giving, starting with the tithe, and then moving into offerings besides. We have seen the miraculous hand of God at work in the lives of those who are generous towards God, His church, and their fellow man.
“For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have.” 2 Corinthians 8:12
“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Luke 6:38
“Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9:7
